Those that finished the marathon are aware of how much fun it was. Those who at least tried did not likely regret it. The main event of the annual Swimming festival at sea, which takes place on the beach in Poreč during the first weekend in September, is the recreational swimming marathon called Poreč Dolphin.
You can join the swimmers at any point between 9 am and 3 pm and choose one of the three marathon laps. The marathon begins at the hotel Pical beach. The swimming area is designated and under monitoring for the swimmers’ safety, there are secured lockers on the beach, and participants will be transported by boat from the finish line back to the starting point.
Everything is permitted, including masks, fins, inflatable beach beds, water wings, so don’t give up too soon if you can’t finish the entire marathon. You can swim slowly or quickly, employ any known or unknown technique, and set out alone or with friends or family.
Everyone can take on the Poreč dolphin swimming challenge since it’s the participation that counts, not the outcome.
Bronze dolphin
is awarded to those who complete the 1500 m lap, and anyone can do this!
Silver dolphin
is awarded to those who complete a distance of 3000 m.
Golden dolphin
is reserved for those who reach and swim – altogether 5000 m, and not everyone can do this!
