Škarline Nature Park is located near Brtonigla, and it consists of a green canyon named after a stream that springs next to it. Škarline exudes a special loveliness, and peace that you will rarely find anywhere else. This unique canyon of Istria is about two kilometers away from the nearest houses, and you can enter it from Brtonigla or Nova Vas.
Traveling to the green canyon of Škarline is a memorable experience in itself as you travel along vineyards, meadows, and olive groves. In addition to the beautiful forest, Škarline offers visitors a tranquil and spacious landscape with meadows, two small lakes, a bridge, and a waterfall. The park before the canyon is well arranged and ideal for spending the day. There are benches to unwind, and taps with spring water.
At the entrance of the park, you can appreciate the view of the lakes and a meadow. Just a few minutes away from the first inhabited place, Škarline is a great place for a picnic but also a location to learn more about the geo-paleontological history of this area. Namely, numerous fossils have been found in Škarline, and the canyon is rich in flora and fauna.
The canyon itself is something that will leave you breathless. Walking through nature you can follow the stream to the estuary of river Mirna, and it will lead you to incredible views. When you cross the bridge and descend the cliffs, a surprise awaits you – clear water flow, waterfall, fresh air, and shady forest. It is not uncommon for Škarline to be visited frequently in the summer when a bit of freshness and shade is needed. Fresh air, the sound of water, and a gorgeous view of the greenery will leave you dreaming about this place.
For adventurers, there is an opportunity to walk along the stream and thus come to its confluence with the largest Istrian river Mirna. On a trip to the Škarline Nature Park, it is recommended to bring food, water, and quality equipment for slippery and steep terrain.
