Istria is a well-known wine region with plenty of exclusive wineries offering unique wine varieties. But besides being a wine lovers haven, Istria may be interesting to craft beer lovers too.
As you may know, craft beer is produced differently because it combines both novel flavors and conventional beer ingredients (barley, hop, yeast and water). So let us introduce you to two most well-known Istrian Craft Breweries.
Bura Brew
Bura Brew is an independent craft brewery from Poreč. The project idea was born at the beginning of 2014 and the company was founded in March 2015. Their beer is unfiltered, unpasteurized and it is not additionally treated in any way. In order to obtain a balanced and natural carbonation it undergoes a second fermentation in the bottle (bottle-conditioned).
Water, barley malt, a small percentage of wheat malt, hop and yeast are the only elements they use. The Bura team is made up of its 3 founders; Alessandro, Claudio and Veronika, all of them with different tasks, experiences and skills. Whoever wants to taste and buy their beer as well as find great gift ideas can come directly to the brewery.
San Servolo
It all started when beer enthusiasts Simon and Goran Grbavac and Marko Biondić started producing domestic beer in 2013, with the desire to offer the domestic market a high-quality beer that would fit in well in high-ranking hotels and restaurants. And that’s how the San Servolo beer of Bujska pivovara was born – unfiltered, unpasteurized domestic beer, fermented in a bottle – which shares its name with St. Servolo, the protector of Buje.
